Book borrowing and returning time

Book Borrowing Rules

  1. Borrowing regulations for different reader types (see table).
  2. Please renew your books at least 3 days before the due date. Renewals are not available after the due date; books already "reserved" are also not eligible for renewal. Renewal procedures: You can renew your books by logging into the Missionary Theological Seminary's online library search system and accessing the "Borrowing Status Inquiry" section; or by calling 06-5743053 for library assistance. The new due date is calculated from the renewal date. Overdue books can be renewed after all fines have been paid.
  3. If the materials you wish to borrow are already checked out, you can make a reservation. Reservations will be held for 7 days (starting from the day you are notified). If the book is not picked up within the specified time and no other person has reserved it, it will be returned to the stacks.
  4. Reference books and academic papers are not available for loan.
  5. Designated reference books: Readings assigned by instructors for their courses are placed on the library's reserved shelves for students enrolled in those courses only and are not available for loan. Reading procedures at the Tainan campus: (1) Two books at a time, with a borrowing period of 4 hours per session. (2) A borrowing registration form must be filled out before taking the books. Books must be returned on time, placed in their original location, and a return record must be filled out. (3) Reading is only permitted in the "First Classroom"; please do not take the books elsewhere. (4) Reading hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM; Saturday, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
  6. To ensure the books are properly shelved, please do not return books to the shelf after reading them.
  7. All books and materials are strictly prohibited from being marked with any circles, annotations, or folds; violators will be charged the full price.
  8. To maintain the cleanliness and tranquility of the library, food and drinks are not allowed in the library, and smoking, eating, sleeping, making noise, using mobile phones, and other behaviors that affect the rights of readers are strictly prohibited.

Book return rules

  1. Borrowed books should be returned within the period specified by the library.
  2. The library may request prior notice and recall borrowed books if there are special needs or if an inventory check is required.
  3. Students must return all borrowed books before graduating, taking a leave of absence, withdrawing from school, or faculty and staff leaving their positions.

Violations and Compensation

  1. Overdue books: A fine of NT$5 per book per day will be imposed for any book borrowed beyond the due date. A fine of NT$5 per hour will be imposed for any designated reference books returned late. Borrowing will not be permitted until the overdue fine is paid in full.
  2. Lost books:
  3. (1) The person who lost the borrowed material should report the loss to the library. If the date of the report is after the due date, the person who lost the material must still pay the overdue fine.
  4. (2) The person who lost the material should purchase a replacement book at the original price. If a new version is available, the replacement book will be used. For Chinese books that are not out of print, please return the new book within one month. For English books that are not out of print, please return the new book within three months.
  5. (3) The person who lost the material may choose to have the library purchase the replacement book on their behalf. For Chinese books, the replacement book will be twice the purchase price. For other language books and non-book materials, the replacement book will be three times the purchase price.
  6. (4) If the purchase price of the lost materials cannot be found, Chinese materials will be priced at NT$5 per page, and other language books at NT$10 per page.
  7. (5) If the lost book or non-book material is a single volume in a set, and it cannot be purchased individually, the compensation will be the purchase price of the entire set. If it can be purchased individually, the compensation will be based on the above conditions.
  8. (6) For out-of-print books that cannot be purchased, the compensation price will be negotiated separately.

Photocopying services

  1. This library provides photocopiers for readers to photocopy the library's collection materials themselves. When photocopying the collection materials, readers should comply with the relevant provisions of the Copyright Law and should not photocopy the entire book. If any illegal acts are committed, the reader shall be held responsible.
  2. Legal liability for illegal photocopying of textbooks:
  3. (1) Photocopying is one of the methods of reproduction. Photocopying textbooks without authorization and in violation of the fair use provisions constitutes an infringement of the copyright of others.
  4. (2) If students entrust photocopying shops to photocopy textbooks illegally, since photocopying shops are profit-making units that make a living by photocopying, regardless of the number of copies or the amount of money, they must bear civil and criminal liability if the rights holder files a lawsuit.
  5. (3) If students engage in the act of illegally photocopying textbooks themselves, they shall bear civil liability, and if the rights holder files a lawsuit, they shall also bear criminal liability.

As approved by a motion passed at the College Council meeting on August 15, 2025, doctoral graduates must submit both a hard copy and an electronic copy of their dissertation to the university library. One electronic copy will be available on the library's website for external scholars to access and reference. One hard copy will be available for in-library reading. Failure to submit either copy will result in the denial of graduation.
